National Gallery of Fine Arts Park

Jabal Al Weibdeh- Amman

A thoughtfully planned out garden with natural elements in the heart of Jabal Al Weibdeh.

The National Gallery of Fine Arts Park in Amman, known locally as “Al Muntaza”, is a beautifully restored public garden that is located between the 2 National Galleries. While it doesn’t have any playground equipment, children can enjoy climbing on the structures, playing in the sand, and exploring all the different natural elements.

  • There is a guard there at all times and they enforce the park rules (specifically about playing soccer in the courtyard). The park is fenced in except for the 2 gates and cafe entrance.

  • Not a lot of trash, but kids might find rubbish in the sand.

  • The only shade available is under the trees.

  • Stairs make it hard to access the lower parts of the courtyard. The pathways are cobblestone, which might be hard on certain types of wheels.

  • Your little ones will love exploring, playing in the sand, and climbing on the structures. There is a nice flat surface perfect for practicing walking or riding a tricycle- but beware of the stairs.

This quaint park offers a large quad courtyard with plenty of room for families to sit. Kids can ride bikes and skate in the quad, but the guard usually prevents older children from playing soccer in the middle. All types of people come to this park- you’ll regularly see families, kids hanging out after school, people getting their photos taken, professionals on their lunch breaks, and Nannies together for play dates.

I love that this park isn’t huge, but has so many different areas and natural elements. The landscaping is peaceful by design, with all types of natural elements- trees, flowers, rocks, etc. Every corner has a different vibe and the whole family will love exploring. I especially like the corner with the Japanese-style garden and the little bridge.

A great place for kids to toddle around or ride skates, small bikes, and scooters. Even without actual playground equipment, I always have to drag my kids away.

Mamma tip: Grab some cookies or pastries from the neighboring Motta bakery for a quick picnic. The croissant filled with white cheese is not to be missed.

Food
There is a cafe attached to the park (Maisha’s Bakery) and also Jungle Fever Cafe at the top floor of the National Gallery of Fine Arts. Motta Bakery is across the street, and there is a small supermarket down the street from the park.

Bathrooms
No official bathrooms, but you might be able to use the cafe bathrooms (located in the back of the cafe near the Japanese garden area of the park). They are super clean.

Street parking in a busy neighborhood- avoid if possible.
